The Cohen New Works Festival is an biannual arts festival, that provides students the opportunity to develop and produce new work. As Information Technology Manager and with Victoria Goss, the Applications Chair & Technical Writer, we aimed to broaden the scope and reach of The Festival to be true to its mission, vision, and core values.
Looking towards the week of The Festival and at its growing scale, we began thinking of ways to improve patron interaction with The New Works Festival. It wasn’t until Victoria told me about the Austin City Limit’s RFID check-in wristbands that it clicked for us, we wanted to create a mobile app. With the support of the producers we began development using the Shoutem app platform. Our original goal was to have the mobile app serve as a digital version of The Festival guide to accommodate the flexible nature of The New Works Festival. Our goal grew, to maximize accessibility we developed The Festival app to be available across several platforms: iOS, Android, and an HTML5 Browser Equivalent.
